Their food pantry shelves have not looked this bare in a long time, and with the holiday season approaching leaders at the Lexington Salvation Army say it is the worst time to not have enough for those in need.

Without baby formula to offer families or foods high in protein leaders are concerned they will have to turn people away this holiday season.

Normally, the pantry is also stocked with personal hygiene items like toothpaste and toothbrushes, but there are just diapers and soap on the shelves now. and with more than 20 new families turning to the pantry each month for food, help is needed more than ever.

Please drop off any items any day of the week at the Salvation Army. And don't forget the Angel Tree, which kicks off on Friday. You can help a local child have a Merry Christmas by selecting an angel at either Fayette Mall or Whitaker Bank locations.
