The Fayette County coroner has released the name of a Lexington teen killed in a crash involving an ATV Thursday night.
Police said the teen, Michael L. Sparks, 15, was riding an ATV when he ran a stop sign and collided with a pick-up truck around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Eastland Parkway and Anniston Drive. The coroner said Sparks died of at UK Hospital of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
"This isn't something you want to see. This isn't something you expect to see," said Cameron Clark, who was on his way to a nearby church when he witnessed the aftermath. "It was terrible. My heart just sank... It's sad, you know. No one deserves this. Nothing. No one."
Clark watched as investigators taped off the intersection, working to figure out how this could've happened.
"My initial response was that it could be one of my friends. It could be someone that I know personally. And it just, my heart dropped," said Clark.
"The two years that I've known him, playing basketball and everything like that, it's just unbelievable that this has just happened," said Cody McCollough, a friend of Sparks.
"At the end of the day, my heart is just broken for him. For the family and the friends. Everyone involved. My heart is just broken," Clark said.
