A Lexington woman who killed a child is scheduled to be released from prison after serving less than three years, and the grandmother of the child is not happy that she is being released.

Hope Cundiff is livid after getting a phone call from the Department of Corrections about Sarah Taylor, the woman who killed her granddaughter in 2004. 22-month-old Madison Cundiff was the daughter of Taylor's then live-in boyfriend. Taylor was convicted and sentenced to prison for reckless homicide in December 2008. When she is released next month, she will have served about 2 years and eight months.

"She can go out here and kill another child," said Cundiff. "She can go on with life. Madi is gone."

Cundiff is taking her anger and directing it at the justice system in the state. She is using Facebook to find others to help her call lawmakers and change how violent offenders are punished.

I was a deputy in Hardin County jail," said Cundiff. "Had all the respect for our laws and corrections and now, I wouldn't give you a dime for any of it, because something is wrong with our system, Bad, bad wrong."

At first, Cundiff thought Taylor was getting an early release, but that is not the case. The Department of Corrections says Taylor was convicted of reckless homicide, and only has to serve 20 percent of her sentence, which will be finished on September 1.

Cundiff's Facebook page can be found here.
