Officials with the Lexington Division of Emergency Management say they are tracking the progress of Hurricane Sandy and its potential impact on central Kentucky.

Officials also say the adverse effects of the storm along the east coast provide an opportunity to remind Kentuckians to check their own home, vehicle and workplace emergency kits, update their family emergency plans, know how to be aware of impending emergency situations and become involved with local emergency preparedness organizations.

Emergency management officials recommend four steps:

1. Be alert
2. Have a plan
3. Get Active
4. Have a kit
