Shoppers hit the malls and shopping centers Monday morning to take advantage of post-Christmas deals and to exchange those not-quite-perfect gifts, but not in the numbers you might expect.

Plenty of parking places remained open in front of Target in Hamburg Monday morning, and clerks said the crowds were much smaller than they expected. Most of the shoppers seemed to congregate in the Christmas section, snatching up 50 percent deals on lights, wrapping paper and Christmas cards.
