LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Police in Louisville have found the body of a woman inside a home after a standoff with a man who held a gun to his own head.

WAVE-TV reported the incident began late Thursday when police went to a western Louisville nieghborhood to check on the welfare of an elderly woman who other family members hadn't heard from since August.

Police arrived to find the woman's son threatening to kill himself and several hours of negotiations began.

The man put down his gun around 2 a.m. Friday and police found a badly decomposed female body in the house.

Police had not determined whether it was the body of the woman they were checking on and it wasn't immediately clear how the person died.

The man was being questioned, but had not been charged.
