The southern man accused of killing a former sheriff was arraigned Wednesday morning.

18-year-old Charles Hammer is charged in the shooting death of former Monroe County Sheriff and former Tompkinsville Police Chief 28-year-old Herbert "Sproket" Proffitt.

Proffitt arrested Hammer a decade ago.

Police are investigating if the desire for revenge was a motive in the shooting.
