Police arrested a man who reported an early morning dumpster fire, and investigators say they suspect he was the one who set it.
The clerk at the Shell station on South Broadway, near Red Mile Road, says the man alerted her to the burning dumpster around 2:30 a.m. Firefighters quickly put out the fire.
The clerk says she recognized the man because he came in the store earlier in the week, around the same time as another fire in the same dumpster.
About an hour later, firefighters responded to burning garbage cans near Canaan House on South Broadway. The same man was at the scene and spoke to an LEX 18 reporter.
"I just hope we catch who's doing this. They have cameras over at shell. I just hope they catch him."
Officers arrested Billy Joe Cecil, 31, and charged him with alcohol intoxication. Fire investigators call him a possible suspect in the dumpster fire at the shell station, but police have not filed any charges at this time.
The investigation into both fires continues.
