Police arrested a man after a 30 minute standoff at a Lexington apartment complex Thursday morning.

Police say Miguel Mesa, 25, got into a fight with his mother and sister at the Double Tree Apartments on Meade Court. Investigators say when his mother went to the apartment office to get help, Mesa assaulted his sister and trashed the apartment. When officers arrived, he remained inside the unit with a knife and his 3-year-old daughter. Police say officers spent about 30 minutes negotiating with Mesa. They say he refused to put his daughter down, complicating the issue. Mesa finally gave up and police took him into custody.

The child was not harmed.

Police say Mesa's sister suffered minor injures and was treated at the scene.

Officers say Mesa told them he'd recently lost a loved one, was drinking and his emotions were running high.
