Lexington police arrested a man after an SUV crashed through a utility pole and the driver ran from the scene early Friday morning.
Police say the driver lost control of the vehicle along Liberty Road near Gerardi Road around 2:45 a.m. The vehicle snapped a utility pole, went through a culvert and hit a street light. Witnesses saw the driver run away from the scene. A police K9 unit tracked him down a short time later on nearby Stonewood Lane.
Officers arrested Rodriquez Allen Smith, 29, and charged him with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, no registration and an insurance violation.
The broken pole left a telephone line dangling across Liberty Road and crews will have to replace it.
