A Lawrence County man is charged with animal cruelty after police say he stomped a cat to death.

James Lewis, 33, of Louisa is facing first-degree animal cruelty charges. According to the Paintsville Herald, police say Lewis went into a house without permission August 25 and took an adult cat allegedly belonging to the family there.

Witnesses say Lewis claimed it was his and left, later stomping it to death.
