A Christian County principal and bus driver are being credited for likely saving the life of a student after the bus driver refused to drop the student off with his father, who had a protective order against him and is now charged in the murder of his mother.
The incident happened Monday. The Kentucky New Era says Michael R.Johnson, 33, was waiting to pick up the boy outside the boy's home. However, the bus driver refused to leave the child there, remembering that Johnson had an emergency protective order against him. The bus driver contacted the principal, who refused to release the child to Johnson.
Johnson's mother, Deborah A. Johnson, 54, who the child and her son lived with before the protective order was issued several days earlier, was later found dead at their Schaeffer Street home.
Johnson was arrested Tuesday at a Holiday Inn in Hopkinsville and charged with killing his mother.
