A Madison County man has been charged in connection to a Friday burglary of $20,000 from a Richmond home.
Police say Brandon Alexander, was able to get into a home on Maryland Drive through an unlocked window. Officers say he took off with a lockbox with $20,000 cash inside which the victim had received as part of a settlement.
Investigators say shortly after the burglary was reported, Alexander was involved in a crash. An officer found the empty lockbox and $400 on Alexander.
After searching his Alexander's apartment, police found $17,000 in cash hidden in a sofa.
Alexander is charged with second-degree burglary. The money was returned to the owner.
