Lexington police say a man conned an Alzheimer's patient out of more than $3,000.

According to court documents, Jesse R. Delautre, 32, wrote letters to the victim, saying they were from his cancer-stricken mother. The letters contained requests for money and promises it would be paid back. Police say Delautre later admitted the claims were false.

Investigators say Delautre also altered a $600 check and then forged endorsement.

Police arrested Delautre Thursday and charged him with exploiting an adult and possession of a forged instrument.
