Neighbors helped an elderly man to safety after his Bourbon County home went up in flames early Thursday morning.

The fire broke out in a house along Peacock Road just before 4 a.m. Firefighters say the elderly man who lives there suffers from some health problems. Neighbors say they went to help when they saw the flames. They found the man on his back porch and were able to get him safely away from the burning house.

"I got my clothes on as quick as I could to get over there, and when I got to the front of his house, I couldn't even get in- the fire. I heard him hollering. He was out back. He'd made it to the back door and out on the back porch and I heard him hollering," Robert Brewer said.

Firefighters were still on the scene at 5:30 a.m., putting out hot-spots. They called the home a complete loss.

Fire officials say the blaze apparently started in the living room, but they have not determined a cause.

There were no reported injuries.
