Police continue to search for a suspect after he slipped away during a standoff in Madison County Tuesday evening.

Officials say the incident started when deputies responded to a report of a domestic assault at a home along Francis Drive. Witnesses say they heard James Nelson arguing with deputies, and one officer deployed a Taser. Officials say Nelson shoved a deputy and then locked himself inside the home. Police surrounded the home and evacuated nearby residents. But when police entered the house about an hour later, Nelson was nowhere to be found. At some point, the suspect apparently slipped out the back.

Deputies say they don't think he went far.

"He's in the area somewhere because he's been sighted several time down through the neighborhood," Madison County Sheriff Sgt. Michael Marcum said.

Police called off the search around 9 p.m., but one deputy remained, patrolling the area overnight.

Deputies think Nelson might be armed.

"His girlfriend said he had three guns. We did recover two from the house. We don't know where the other one's at."
