Lexington police found a man dead inside a vacant home early Wednesday morning.
Police say they got a call reporting a man unconscious inside the abandoned house on Georgetown Street around 12:30 a.m. After searching the home, officers found an unresponsive man on the second floor. A Fayette County deputy coroner declared him dead a short time later. Medics say the victim appeared to be homeless. They suspect the cold was a factor, but the coroner has not ruled an official cause of death.
A man who says he knew the victims says the man sought shelter in the vacant home before.
"I'm just here to say there should be something better done about situations like what happened tonight, and will happen a whole bunch more before spring. You'll have a lot more of these situations...guys trying to stay warm and can't do it. It's freaking sad."
