Police say a freight train hit and killed a pedestrian walking the tracks Saturday afternoon.

It happened along Sam Jones Road north of Richmond.

The coroner says they haven't yet identified the victim and they don't know why he was on the tracks.

Police are still investigating.

The train was not derailed by the collision.
