A train hit and killed a man standing on the tracks in Nicholasville early Wednesday morning.

Jessamine County Coroner Michael Hughes says the man was standing on the tracks about a quarter mile south of the Baker Street crossing just before midnight when the train hit him. The coroner says the man was likely facing the train and it doesn't appear he tried to move before impact.

"We don't know if he was walking or standing. When he was seen at the last moment, he wasn't moving at all. We don't know if that was intentional, or just shock factor. But he didn't appear to try to get out of the way of the train," Hughes said.

Officials say they don't know much about the victim, only that he was white, and between the ages of 30 and 50. If you have any information, call Nicholasville police at 859-885-9468.
