Lexington police say alcohol was likely a factor in a single vehicle crash that seriously injured a man Wednesday night.

Police say George Van Wert was driving along Greenwich Pike around 10:30 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed through a fence. The car rolled and came to rest on its roof. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut the victim out of the wreckage.

EMS took Van Wert to UK Hospital. Police described his condition as serious.
