Man Injured, Traffic Snarled After I-64 Crash In Franklin Co.

A man suffered life threatening injuries in an accident along I-64 in Franklin County Monday morning.

Police say a car traveling eastbound near mile marker 46 around 6:30 a.m. clipped a tractor trailer and then flipped four or five times before coming to rest in a ditch. When rescue crews arrived, the driver was outside the car, and officials say he may have been ejected. The victim was flown to UK Hospital with a broken leg and head injuries.

The truck driver was not injured.

Police say they think the man may have fallen asleep at the wheel, but continue to investigate and have not officially determined the cause of the accident.

As of 8 a.m., traffic along I-64 was snarled in both directions. Police have shut down both east bound lanes and are periodically blocking westbound lanes to allow traffic to cross the median to go around the accident scene.
