A man died when a loaded tractor-trailer slammed into his pickup truck in Clark County Wednesday night.
Firefighters say a family member told the the man behind the wheel suffered from dementia and left his home earlier in the night.
Officials say the pickup truck rolled past a stop sign at the intersection of Old Boonesboro Road and Boonesboro Road, and into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer. The semi T-boned the pickup.
"Been told by someone on the scene that he's a dementia patient who drove away from home, and they've been looking for him at about an hour. That's unconfirmed through us. That was said by the son who showed up - that he had gotten the keys and drove away." Clark County Fire Department Battalion Chief William Puckett said.
The coroner says the victim was James Patrick, 77.
The semi driver was not injured.
Deputies remained on the scene overnight reconstructing the crash.
