An Indiana man says he's lucky to be alive after being thrown into the water during a fishing tournament.

Art Kerns and a friend were fishing in Marshall County when intense winds ripped the motor off their boat and later capsized.

Kerns called his son who was also fishing in the tournament to come help him.

Fighting frigid temperatures, Kerns and his friend held on until help arrived. Both men were wearing life preservers and rescue workers hope others see that and remember to wear their own safety equipment in the water.
