A Fayette County judge sentenced a man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of a teenager.
The judge sentence Robert Benton to 15 years in prison for manslaughter and felony possession of a handgun. Benton admitted to gunning down 19-year-old Brian Carr outside of a Lexington nightclub in May 2011.
Benton will also have to pay nearly $32,000 restitution for medical bills. He will receive about 1.5 years credit for time served.
Benton didn't speak during his sentencing. His mother said her son was "very caring" and would "give the last dollar out of his pocket." She said she doesn't condone the killing and apologized to Carr's family.
