Police say a man was stabbed trying to fend off a burglar early Thursday morning in Georgetown.

The burglar tried to enter the home on Mallory Lane about 1 a.m., but ran away when an alarm went off. Police say the would-be burglar returned about 2:20 a.m. A man inside the house tried to shut the back screen door that the burglar was attempting to enter when the intruder stabbed the victim and ran into a field behind the home.

Georgetown Police Sgt. Jason Whitaker spoke with the victim.

"I asked the victim if he was actually sliced or actually stabbed, the victim said that he was stabbed straight in which possibly could be a thin knife, you know a pocketknife possibly," Whitaker said.

The victim was taken to Georgetown Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials say.

A Lexington Police K9 unit assisted the Georgetown Police in the search for the burglar. They have made no arrests.
