Man Stabs Suspect In Robbery Attempt

A man stabbed a robber in self-defense at a Nicholasville grocery store Tuesday night.

Police were called to the Kroger on South Main Street around 11 p.m. Police say when officers arrived, a man told them three men attacked him in the bathroom and tried to steal his wallet. The victim pulled a knife and stabbed one of the robbers in the lower back. The three men ran from the store. A witness followed the truck that the three men left in and reported to dispatchers where it went. Officers located the vehicle abandoned at a nearby apartment complex. That truck was reported stolen.

Officers found two of the three suspects nearby, one suffering from a stab wound.

Police arrested Steven Whitaker, 22, and took him to the hospital where he was treated and released into police custody. He faces a charge of receiving stolen property. Police say other charges are possible as the investigation continues.

Officers also arrested Joseph Morris, 24, and charged him with robbery and probation violation.
