A Maryland man hit by a car as he crossed a Pike County highway last week has died from his injuries.

Police say Juan Ortiz, 43, parked his tractor-trailer in the K-Mart parking lot along US-23 in the Coal Run community last Thursday. As he was crossing the highway to return to his vehicle, a car struck him. EMS took Ortiz to Pikeville Medical Center. Officials say he died at the hospital Monday.

Police continue to investigate the accident.
