Mason County linebacker Josh Harris is the first commitment for the Kentucky class of 2012.
A scholarship from Kentucky was offered and accepted Sunday morning, according to Harris's coach at Mason County, David Buchanan.
Kentucky was the first school to officially offer a scholarship but Buchanan believes that similar offers were likely coming soon from Illinois, Western Kentucky and Michigan State. Buchanan also recently sent tape of Harris to Alabama, Nebraska and LSU.
"Things were getting ready to really heat up for him," Buchanan said.
Buchanan thinks the 6-foot-2,195 pounder is best suited to play strong safety in Rick Minter's newly installed 3-4 defense, though he also could see him lining up as an insider or outside linebacker.
"Josh is a great football player, so whatever you're going to be doing, you're going to find a place for him. He's a special football player," he said.
Buchannan called Harris the best player he's ever coached.
"He can get to the football faster and better than everyone I've been around and he's also very physical. His nose for the ball is good or probably I've ever seen," he said.
The Mason County staff is thrilled to have Harris staying in state and that will help make this a binding commitment, Buchannan said.
I'm done sending his video out, I'm done giving his phone number out. It's finished. He wants to be a Wildcat."
