McCreary County school officials canceled classes Friday due to a chemical spill.
Officials say there is no danger to students, but they made the decision to close schools due to traffic issues along US-27.
Police shut down US-27 around 6 p.m. Thursday after a tanker truck carrying liquid sodium-hydroxide rolled over and leaked about 10 gallons of the chemical. As crews worked to offload the chemical around 11 p.m., the tank was breached, spilling 3,000 gallons of the industrial lye. Two workers were injured.
Officials say they don't know how long it will take to complete the cleanup, or when US-27 will reopen.
Police are rerouting traffic onto KY-700 and KY-1045.
