Thirteen members of a Georgia church group continue to recover after their van collided with a coal truck in Whitley County Wednesday.
The accident happened a few miles east of Williamsburg around 3:30 p.m. Police say the van was traveling along HWY-92 when a semi carrying coal slammed into it. Rescue crews used jaws of life to cut some of the victims out of the van. Terry Taphouse, the church's youth minister, was driving the van. He and his wife Lois were flown to UK Hospital. They were listed in serious condition as of Thursday morning.
EMS took five of the remaining 11 passengers in the van to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The youth group, from Belmont Baptist Church in Gainesville, Ga., was in Kentucky doing mission work.
LEX 18 spoke with the pastor of the church. He says several members are on the way to Kentucky to be with the injured.
