The story of a pregnant Russell County mother who was murdered while she was out jogging is one you won't soon forget. Sarah Hart was already a wife and mother, and now, her father is taking about a about a new project in his daughter's honor.
Hart's father, pastor Wendell Roberts, says they'll do that by remembering what was most important to her - running. A race in Hart's honor has been organized for August 11 in Russell Springs. The race will be four miles long - each mile dedicated to one of her and her husband's four children - including the baby boy she was pregnant with when she was killed last month.
"We just want to honor her life and celebrate her life and celebrate her memory," said Roberts. "The first mile will be for Avery, the oldest. Then Addison, then Archer, and the last for our unborn child, Alexander."
The race starts at Russell County School's natatorium and will raise money to fund scholarships for medical and pharmacy students. Hart was a pharmacist herself.
"I think it will be a great feeling to know we had a hand even if it's a small hand in getting someone to the place she was," said Roberts.
In the days after her murder, so many people showed their support. Her dad says that's a testament to her kindness - remembering one time in high school, when Sarah struck out a girl at bat.
"As Sarah left the mound and walked back to the dugout, she caught the girl's eye and said I'm sorry," said Roberts. "She cared about people.
Her father wants that to be her legacy. "That's what I hope this race does - touches other people's lives," he said.
The "Run With All Your Hart" race is set for August 11t in Russell Springs. Her family will be promoting the race and raising money for it at Wednesday's "Bluegrass 10,0000" race set for 7"30 a.m. in downtown Lexington.
