On Wednesday morning, the city of Lexington will honor a firefighter shot and killed in the line of duty nine years ago.
On Feb. 13, 2004, Brenda Cowan was shot as she rushed to help a shooting victim. Her service and sacrifice inspired a Kentucky law protecting first responders and the founding of the Brenda Cowan Coalition Center.
The city will observe a minute of silence at 8 a.m. Wednesday in Cowan's memory.
