A Morehead police officer was injured when he crashed his cruiser trying to avoid a deer in the roadway early Monday morning.

Police say Officer Brad Gillock was heading westbound on HWY-32 to back up another officer on a call when a deer ran into the roadway. Gillock swerved to avoid the animal and lost control. His cruiser careened down an embankment, went airborne, crashing into a parked car and a vacuum repair business. Firefighters had to cut Gillock out of the totaled cruiser.

EMS took the officer to St. Claire Regional Medical Center. The Morehead police chief says Gillock suffered some bad cuts on his arms, but he is expected to be OK.
