A Pulaski County mother says she was shocked to find a flyer discussing homosexuality, abortion and religion in her second grade son's backpack earlier this week.

The flyer was a paid ad inserted in a local newspaper handed out in bundles to some Pulaski County schools. Staci Weddle says school officials need to do a better job monitoring the content.

"It infuriates me they would let a child see that and not protect them from the material they're sending home," she said.

School administrators say teachers use the paper to teach current events, and they plan to check the ads in the future.
