Mother Defends Ex-Ben-Gals Cheerleader

INDEPENDENCE (AP) - The mother of a former teacher and Cincinnati Ben-Gals cheerleader says she's supportive of her daughter's relationship with a one-time student if it lasts, saying "age matters more now than it would in five or 10 years."

Cheryl Armstrong Jones of Independence told The Kentucky Enquirer that her daughter, 27-year-old Sarah Jones, is an "excellent teacher," but having a relationship with the teen "was her fault."

Sarah Jones pleaded guilty in October to having sex with her former student while she was a teacher in northern Kentucky. Jones has said the relationship began when the boy was 17.

Cheryl Jones, a former middle school principal, pleaded guilty to attempted tampering with evidence. She admitted sending the teen a text message telling him to get rid of his phone.
