MURRAY (AP) - A Murray State basketball player has entered a not guilty plea to hitting a couple with his car in the parking lot of a Walmart.
The Paducah Sun reports 20-year-old Zaveral "Zay" Jackson of Hammond, La., entered the plea Tuesday in Calloway County Circuit Court to charges of second-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment.
Jackson was indicted last week for the second time in the case.
Originally, he was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, but entered a guilty plea to lesser charges of first-degree wanton endangerment in exchange for a 30-day jail sentence and diversion.
However, the original judge stepped down and a new judge rejected the proposed sentence as too lenient. Jackson then withdrew his plea, which sent the case back to the grand jury.
