NEWPORT, Ky. (AP) - The Newport police chief says one of his officers is likely to be suspended after being charged with driving under the influence in his police cruiser.

Chief Robbie Hall says 42-year-old Officer Gregory Simmons was arrested Thursday in Richmond, where he was attending a week-long annual training.

I'm glad they caught this guy. Time after time I see police officers driving up and down the interstate well in excess of the speed limit without their lights on. I understand sometimes they have to run 'dark' but I doubt there are that many circumstances where they need to do so. Most are officers from other counties going to the justice training center and are probably just running late. No excuse for breaking the law though. The nerve of this guy to come into our town and drive drunk, in a cruiser no less.
