Kentucky State Police have released the name of the man shot and killed by a drug task force officer in Montgomery County Thursday afternoon.
Police say members of the Buffalo Trace Drug Task Force entered a home along Science Ridge Road in Jeffersontown to serve a warrant around 4:15 p.m. Officers say they announced themselves and first came into contact with the homeowner, Laura Johnson. Police ordered her to the ground. An officer then entered a bedroom and spotted Terry Pruitt crouched down behind a bed, pointing a pistol at him. Pruitt refused to comply with the officer's commands to drop the weapon, and the officer fired.
Montgomery County Coroner Josh Coffman pronounced Pruitt dead at the scene.
Officials say an autopsy is planned for Friday morning, and the incident remains under investigation.
