SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) - A new coroner has taken office in Pulaski County.
The Commonwealth-Journal (http://bit.ly/VUw2dE) reports Charles "Chuck" E. Godbey was sworn in on Thursday by Pulaski County Judge-Executive Barty Bullock.
Godbey will serve the remaining term of former Coroner Richard New, who stepped down from the post Wednesday after pleading guilty to theft charges stemming for his employment at a funeral home. The term ends on Dec. 31, 2014.
Bullock said he wanted someone "complete neutral" in the position and approached Godbey, who accepted.
Godbey had retired in 2010 from his position as assistant chief of Somerset-Pulaski County EMS, but said he missed serving the public. He said he's looking forward to his new role.
