The University of Kentucky basketball team returned to Lexington just after midnight after its 69-52 loss to the Florida Gators in Gainesville Tuesday night.
Nerlens Noel was the first person off the team bus, making his way inside on crutches.
The UK freshman's knee slammed into a support underneath the goal after he charged down the court to block a layup. The knee bent at an awkward angle, and Noel spent several minutes on the floor screaming in pain. Teammates carried him off the court.
"We just all, as a team, got together and prayed for him for a minute and sent him to the hospital," UK coach John Calapari said. "I didn't see much. They just said it looked ugly, so, we'll have to see."
Noel's knee was X-rayed at a Gainesville hospital, but team officials did not release any information on the extent of the injury.
