Last year at this time, how many were talking about Anthony Davis being one of the great Kentucky players of all time?
Last year at this time, how many NBA scouts and general managers were talking about Anthony Davis being the number one pick in the draft?
No one said life is fair. To compare Nerlens Noel to Anthony Davis at this point isn't fair, but it's what we all do in sports.
According to realgm.com, one NBA general manager isn't that excited about this years UK center when you compare him to Davis.
"I'm not that high on him," the talent evaluator told realgm.com after watching Noel run with the other prospects during a stoppage in play at the Adidas Nations tournament.
"He can block shots, but I don't put him in the class of Davis. And on offense, what can he do? While Davis was sort of restricted for most of his season at Kentucky, you could see the level of skill. I don't see that with Noel ...at least not yet."
Here is what we don't know. How much Noel will improve once he gets on UK's campus. When you play in something like the Adidas Nations tournament, the atmosphere is more like an all-star game - not like a team. What Cal is really good at is pushing a true team concept. Plus, the coaching Noel will get, not only from Cal, but assistant Kenny Payne, will probably turn out to be a big help.
When Anthony Davis played against Indiana early last season, no one was predicting he'd be the first pick in the NBA draft. At this point, although many are guessing Noel being the first pick in next years draft, he has a lot of work to do on his game just like Davis did.
