Here's a story that pegs the hypocrisy meter.
Indiana state troopers arrested a Seymour, Ind. police officer on DUI charges after he crashed a pickup pulling a D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) trailer Wednesday night.
Police say John Newcomb, 38, was driving the pickup pulling the trailer along Main Street in Salem around 10:30 p.m. when he sideswiped a legally parked vehicle along the road and crashed into a tree.
Investigators say it was quickly apparent alcohol was likely a factor.
The crash woke Tina Robbins up.
"It was so loud. I was out of the bed on the floor within a spilt second," she told a WAVE TV reporter. "He was sitting on the wall out of the vehicle, holding his head."
According to the Seymour Police Department website, Newcomb serves as the School Resource Officer, responsible for seven schools. He acts as a mentor, providing students with a role model. It even states that he conducts lectures on narcotics and alcohol and their effects on driving.
"He's not setting a good example for kids that see this," Robbins said.
Police say Newcomb refused medical treatment at the scene. Troopers charged him with operating while intoxicated and booked in the Washington County Jail.
