Officials Release Name Of Cyclist Killed In Lexington

Officials have identified the bicyclist who was hit and killed by an SUV on a north Lexington road Thursday afternoon as 53-year-old Thomas Kerr of Lexington.

Police say the accident happened just after 2:00 p.m. on Russell Cave near the intersection of Park Place, when Kerr was hit from behind by the SUV. Kerr was taken to UK Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two people were inside the SUV, and neither were hurt. The driver was taken to the hospital so a blood sample could be taken as a standard to check for drug or alcohol use.

A portion of Russell Cave was shut down for about three hours as accident reconstruction units completed their investigation.
