UK officials confirmed police are investigating after a disturbing report involving an apparent attempt to lure a child into a car.
The incident happened Wednesday night at the Lancaster Aquatic Center on the UK campus.
UK Police say a male driving a black, older model Honda Accord with dark tinted windows and round taillights approached a 13-year-old female visitor outside the Lancaster Aquatic Center.
The girl said that the driver of the vehicle said to her, "You look cold. How about a ride home?"
She declined the driver's offer; however, the driver continued to ask her to enter his vehicle. She left the area unharmed and reported the incident to her coach.
UK Police say they are increasing patrols in the area.
I was shocked to get the e-mail," said parent Rica Ricketts. "I was also happy to get it to know the coaches were on top of it. They thought it was so important to send the e-mail out to everyone."
Parents who spoke with LEX 18 said they are changing the way they pick up their children in light of yesterday's incident.
"I probably will have him walk with me to the car," said Fawn Hanks. "I work in this area so my car's not far away. Rather than leave him out here in the dark I'll have him go with me."
