Police in Scott County are investigating after they say a ninth-grade student came to school with a gun Thursday morning.
According to a letter sent to parents, students at Scott County Ninth Grade School reported to school officials at about 8:45 a.m. that they saw another ninth-grade student with a handgun. Officials immediately conducted a search of the student and found an unassembled and unloaded gun.
School officials said they are working with Georgetown Police on the investigation, but say they believe this was an isolated incident and that the student did not intend to harm anyone and was trying to "show off and impress friends."
The letter did not say if the student with the gun was arrested or detained.
