One man was killed in a mining accident in Leslie County.

It happened at the Begley number 1 mine site at Short Creek.

53-year-old Jerry Watts was killed Saturday morning when he was hit in the head by a piece of equipment he was working on.

Watts was doing welding work on a bulldozer when a jack slipped causing the fatal injury.

State mining officials will interview witnesses on Monday.
