A man was killed and female passenger was hurt after a pickup truck crashed just short of plunging into the Red River in Powell County Monday morning.
The accident happened at about 9:30 a.m. off of Hardwicks Creek Road in Clay City. Officials say slick roads and speed may have been a factor in the crash. Police say the truck plunged off the side of the road, hit a tree, went airborne and stopped just short of Red River stuck on the tree.
Officials say the driver died shortly after crews arrived. The female passenger was taken to Clark Regional Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.
The names of both victims have not yet been released.
