Owner Of Hurt Dog Found In Dumpster Charged With Animal Cruelty

Animal cruelty charges have been filed against the owner of a dog in Jessamine County that was found badly hurt inside of a dumpster last week.

On September 26 Franklin May came to the Jessamine County Animal Shelter claiming to own the mixed breed Chihuahua dog that was found in a dumpster on September 25 at the Helmsdale Apartments in Nicholasville. Jessamine County Animal Care and Control was able to verify that May was, in fact, the owner of the dog.

Upon review of evidence gathered at the scene of the alleged crime and further investigation by Jessamine County Animal Care and Control, charges of second-degree animal cruelty were filed against May in Jessamine County District Court

Jessamine County Animal Care and Control will be hosting a press conference at 5 p.m. Monday at the Jessamine County Animal Shelter, where a prepared statement regarding the case will be read.

The dog is being treated and is recovering at the Jessamine County Animal Shelter.
