Officials say portions of Richmond Road in Lexington will remain shut down for several hours into the afternoon just past Man O' War Boulevard after a crash involving five vehicles early Friday morning.
Police say a pickup truck was traveling inbound on Richmond Road near Squires Road in the outbound lanes at a high rate of speed just before 4 a.m. when it hit a silver car, spinning it around. The truck then slammed into a black Chevy head-on, pushing the car into a semi. The impact separated the cab of the pickup from its bed.
Officials say the driver of the pickup was critically injured, and two people in the Chevy suffered serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.
Police say there were reports of a drunk driver in a pickup truck at a nearby gas station shortly before the crash.
Officials expect parts of the road to remain closed until at least 3 p.m.
