The former Lexington psychiatrist accused of attacking a patient with a samurai sword is under investigation for prescription drug writing practices.
Police say last month, Dr. Douglas Rank was charged with assault after he stabbed a patient several times at his office in Kenton County. The patient survived the attack.
Since that incident, police say they've been looking into how Dr. Rank writes prescriptions. Jail officials say some patients have been trying to keep appointments with Rank, even though he's behind bars... and that some have even offered to drop off his prescription pad.
Dr. Rank used to practice psychiatry off Custer Drive in Lexington. In 2000, his license to practice was suspended for several months based upon findings that he had sexual contact with a patient while she was under his care.
